Bald Head Island Ferry Information
Bald Head Island’s passenger ferries embark from the mainland at Deep Point Marina, located at 1301 Ferry Road in Southport, NC, just before the state-operated Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry Landing. To reach it, enter Southport via Route 211 South (Howe Street), take a left onto East Moore Street, and then turn right onto Ferry Road at the roundabout. Continue for about half a mile, then turn right into Deep Point Marina, where you’ll find signs directing you to the ferry terminal.
The ferry terminal spans 40,000 square feet and offers a variety of amenities, including indoor and outdoor waiting areas, restrooms, and the Island Times Café, which operates seasonally.
Important Update on Passenger Ferry Schedule – Please be informed that a proposed change to the passenger ferry schedule has been submitted to the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) to enhance the reliability of the ferry system. You can view the details of this filing at baldheadislandferry. com. The current schedule remains in effect until a determination is made by the NCUC. Once finalized, the ferry and tram booking calendar for the rest of the year will be updated. The proposed earliest effective date for any schedule changes is May 1, 2024.
Passenger and Baggage Drop Off
As you near the ferry terminal, please turn right to access the lower level. Stop at the curb to drop off passengers and their luggage. Keep in mind that any unsecured items or open-top bags will need to be placed in a covered container before dock staff can accept them as baggage, so it’s best to plan your packing accordingly. For your convenience, covered containers can be purchased at the ferry ticket window. Additionally, please ensure that golf bags have their top hoods secured or are stored in an enclosed protective cover. A helpful guideline is to pack as you would for a flight.
We also invite you to watch a brief video that gives an overview of the departure and arrival process, along with essential information about baggage requirements.
Oversized Item Drop Off
If you’re traveling with larger items like bikes or kayaks, it’s important to purchase an Oversized Baggage ticket for each one. Once you have your tickets, please bring your items to the lower level curb. There, head to the area marked “Oversized Items,” where a dock attendant will assist you with your items and tickets. Please note that vehicles taller than nine feet cannot access the lower level, as this may result in damage to both your vehicle and the bridge spanning the lower roadway.
Parking Lots
Once you’ve arrived, make your way to the parking lot to secure your vehicle. Both the Premium Parking Lot and the General Parking Lot, managed by Bald Head Island Limited, are conveniently situated just across the street from the ferry terminal. Before entering the terminal, please take a moment to relieve your pets in the grassy areas of the parking lot, and remember to clean up after them.
Parking in the General Lot is priced at $12 per day. When you enter, an electronic parking device will issue you a ticket, which you’ll need to present to the parking attendant for payment when you leave.
Property owners have the option to purchase an annual pass: the General Lot Annual Pass is available for $1,100, while the Premium Lot Annual Pass costs $1,350. Additionally, contractors can obtain an annual pass for $700.

Ferry Boarding
Ferry tickets are available for purchase at the ticket window located on the lower level or online at BaldHeadIslandFerry. com.
If you’ve made a reservation for a specific ferry time online, kindly proceed to the reservations line on the left. If you have not reserved a time, please join the standby line on the right. Passengers with reservations will board first. Prior to boarding, your paper ticket or electronic QR code will be collected or scanned. Once aboard, you can find a comfortable seat and relax during the scenic 20-minute ride to the island.
Please note that there are no restrooms in the gate area, but facilities are available on board the ferries. For your comfort, eating and drinking are not allowed inside the passenger cabin; however, you may enjoy refreshments in the external areas of the ferry. Smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout the entire vessel.
Disembarking & Island Transportation
When you arrive at the Bald Head Island ferry landing, you’ll step off the ferry and follow the signs for tram assignments or golf cart rentals. Depending on your ticket type and availability, tram service to your destination on the island may be provided. To make tram reservations, you can either call (910) 457-5003 or book online when you purchase your ferry tickets.
After receiving your tram assignment, be sure to collect your luggage and place it next to your designated tram. The tram will then transport you to your accommodations. Many rental properties come with one or more golf carts included in your stay, so it’s a good idea to confirm this with your rental agency.
If you’re planning a day trip to the island and won’t require tram service, you can easily rent a golf cart for the day from the Cary Cart Company’s cart hut, conveniently located a short walk from the ferry landing. Reservations are recommended, which you can make by booking online or by calling (910) 457-7333.
